Typically created from jasmine and marigold, they are used to welcome guests, pay respect to elders, and bring good luck to wearers.
Embracing Flower Culture In Bangkok
The hustle and bustle of Bangkok contrasts beautifully with the serene nature of flowers, and visitors to the city have lots of wonderful opportunities to embrace the Thai culture. If visiting over the festivities of Songkran, then flowers are hard to miss. No visit to Bangkok would be complete without a visit to Pak Khlong Talat, though. This historic marketplace dates back to the 1700s and the reign of Rama I. Over the years, it has evolved from a floating market to a fish market and then into the well-known flower market it is today. Taking a stroll through the stalls will reveal skilled artisans creating stunning Phuang Malai, sellers offering beautiful flowers, and a captivating fragrance and vibrancy.
Of course, Pak Khlong Talat is not the only spot to visit. Bangkok is renowned for its many picturesque floating markets.
